Welcome to the Journey

And So It Begins

Though many other schools have opted out of public prayer we thought we would use this example in Exeter California for several reasons. The most important is the town is very small compared with most other places that have gone to private prayer. Also it is a rural community which is another anomaly of this incident.

Many Christians today see this as an attack on their civil liberties, we are not lawyers so we will not comment on the topic, however, we are very interested in this topic and felt the need to do a bit of commentary on the subject of public prayer. Our feelings derive directly from our understanding of the Word of God that influences our beliefs. So please do not take any of these comments out of the context that is our opinion.

First of all we will discuss the sudden and massive apostasy of the church and why we think it is occurring today. Secondly we will discuss the pros and cons of the loss of public prayer.

The Crusades, the Inquisitions, the division of the church now and then, witch hunts, physically forcing belief on native populations, and so much more, along with hypocrisy; comparing the above list of infamous activities conducted by the church, with the Word of God specifically those spoken by King Y’shua Messiah one can quickly see the disconnect. That disconnect has been apparent since before the Bible was constructed into the book that it is today in its canonical form.

Taking that into consideration and one can see that what the public is turning away from today is not what King Y’shua Messiah created two-thousand years ago. With that idea the question arises: Is it a bad thing for people to come away from false teaching? It does not take a theological historian to see that Gandhi lived a closer life to what our Lord desired of His followers than did any Pope.

The key to following King Y’shua Messiah is the combination of work and faith. Either one alone, without the other is not enough, however the Bible speaks of the priority of the two being work (James 2:20). We are not speaking of works of the Law, but works of our Lord (Matthew 21:28-31). There is such a fine line between being perfect for God and being perfect in God (Matthew 5:48). The scripture that helps us with that task is Matthew 9:13, where King Y’shua Messiah tells us what works are most important. He does not replace one with another, but simply provides some sort of priority.

There has always been just a remnant applying the exact teaching of King Y’shua Messiah to their lives. However, the majority has always been more comfortable following men who follow other men who follow other men who profess that they follow Jesus Christ. When in doubt, look for the Fruits of the Blessed Holy Spirit (1Corinthians 13), they are either there or not. If they are there they will be abundantly obvious and you should not have to search for them. If they are not there do not wait for them to show up.

So in reality those that have been following King Y’shua Messiah are still doing just that. While those who leave the church are not leaving anything that remotely resembles the Church, and the reason why so many people today have opted out of churches is due to the Blessed Holy Spirit placing on their hearts the desire to find the Truth. There will be some bumps in the roads they take to be sure, but they will get to where the Lord has directed them.

As far as losing public prayer let us look to the Word of God for guidance:  Matthew 6:1-15 and Matthew 14:23, in these verses we see the importance of private prayer. Our actions that display the Fruits of the Blessed Holy Spirit should be what we show publicly and if we do that there will be far more people coming to the Church than running away.

Gadara

Do you live there? Most do.

It is a place where the individual is king or so in their own minds. In reality, they are no better than the lowest life form on earth. Not that the lowest life form on earth is not important, it is. Just as any life on this planet. That is where the Gadarenes have it all wrong. Their idea is based on the ideology of Nicoli Machiavelli; where the ends always justify the means as long as the end is victory, success, wealth, and power!

Do you live there? Most do.

2 Chronicles 7:14

II Chronicles 7:14 – ” If MY people who are called by MY name will humble themselves and pray and seek MY face and turn from their wicked ways then I will hear from Heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land.”

This is it! This is the answer to all our problems, the solution to all our dilemmas, the pleasant outcome to our poor predicaments!
We humble ourselves ( give up our right to our self ). Pray( go to a higher source than our self).
Seek GODS face ( focus on GOD and not our self).
Turn from our wicked ways?? I don’t know about you but turning from my wicked ways is impossible, this is going to be tough, I don’t know if I can do this.?
Stop me please!

It’s not a question of turning from wicked ways. Ever realize the sequence of direction the LORD uses??? Turning from wicked ways is the last thing HE asks us to do.
If you can truly humble yourself, pray sincerely, and honestly seek a one-on-one relationship with GOD you will find that turning from wicked ways is as natural as breathing because by that time you will be so full of the HOLY SPIRIT that all things will be possible for you.You see, you can not humble yourself or pray or seek GOD without the power, guidance and love of GODS HOLY SPIRIT!
We all need to be full of the HOLY SPIRIT and not our self.
Problem is we think we need to please GOD to win HIS approval and then we will be able to be humble, pray, and seek GOD as a true saint. News flash – there is no good thing in you!
You and I were created by GOD for GOD but we turned a good thing into a bad thing when we decided to not follow HIS rules for the relationship and ” do our own thing!”
DO NOT blame Adam and Eve, everyone has had an opportunity to live a good and holy life and only JESUS the Messiah has succeeded.
Now after breaking the tie that bonds us to GOD, we have nothing good in us. The only thing good in us was GOD and we walked away. Now what!?
JESUS, JESUS is the bond that GOD provided by HIS love and only through complete surrender to the lordship of JESUS do we have a WAY ( I AM, WAY, TRUTH, LIFE ! )
It’s a very simple thing for you, BUT it cost JESUS a crucifixion.

Simply ask ” LORD JESUS, SON of THE MOST HIGH GOD, I believe that you died on a cross for my sins. That GOD raised you from the dead and you now are alive at the right hand of GOD the FATHER for my intercession. I now surrender my life’s yesterday, today and forever, into your hands, AMEN. ( Romans 10:9 ).
If you say this prayer with sincerity you can belong to JESUS and the family of GOD right now.
You have also access to the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD ( the most awesome and powerful force in the universe ) at any time because it has been promised to you.
You can now humble yourself , pray, seek GODS face and turn from your wicked ways because all things are possible with GOD.
If you truly want this life to work you must pick up your cross daily.
JESUS carried his cross to Calvary which was GOD’s will for HIM.
Your cross is the Father’s will for you each day. Sometimes it’s not what we want, but if we are obedient to the FATHER ( led by the HOLY SPIRIT ) HE has a way that leads to a humble, prayerful, intimate and holy life that far exceeds our dreams.
You will wonder why you resisted HIS way for so long.
But remember, this is total surrender, every single moment of every single day.
This can only be accomplished by the power of the HOLY SPIRIT in you.
Every morning start your day with GOD ( meditational thought and prayer and bible and continue on every waking moment if possible). After a few days or weeks or months you will realize that even the bad days are good with GOD.
By the power of the HOLY SPIRIT and with time you will find yourself  in an act of worship that is as natural as breathing, it just happens.
But do not be fooled. Even though we know this truth it is a constant struggle between the SPIRIT and the flesh. St. Paul was very well aware of this ( Romans 7 & 8 ).
But we are told that with GOD all things are possible. So our hope is in HIM.
Remember you are a work in progress ( Ephesians 2:22 ). You are being built into the saint God intends for you to be.
Our part is to give up our right to our self into the hands of THE MOST HIGH GOD.

Food for Thought

A few weeks ago we promised a post on healthy eating because as the scripture states in 1 Corinthians 10:31 – “Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” NASB

Here in the Cepher family, though some of us are just in our early fifties–they have been very difficult years, all before finding  God–we have not been feeling well so we decided to change our eating habits. There was a two-fold purpose for these changes; one reason was to become more obedient to God and follow closer to the above scripture, the second reason, as I have said dealt with health. Things have been going so well with this endeavor that we would like to share our experience with all of you.

The number one item is H2O; drinking enough water is crucial.

We have found with our new eating regiment that we have more energy–and with MS all the energy one can increase is a real blessing–and that energy equates to a better attitude. It is only common sense that the better one feels, the better ones outlook will be. An improved outlook, memory, clearer thought process, and more patience, amounts to an all around better vessel for the Messiah’s use. And all we did was change our eating habits.

A reduction in processed foods and sugar is essential, along with a good supply of fruits and vegetables will help almost immediately. A good rule of thumb is; if you can’t pronounce it, don’t eat it. Of course, organics are preferred, as with range fed animals; however, the price can be prohibitive so you should just purchase what the Lord provides for and reconsider amounts. In the Lord’s time it was not unusual to eat just one large meal each day. Again, it is not about dieting, it is about obedience through a lifestyle change, and with God quality trumps quantity.

What is most important here at the Cepher family is a constant improvement in our relationship with God. We have found that the more one applies him or herself to that directive the more one realizes how much God loves His people, and that there is nothing God would not do for the benefit of His people. Surrendering to God is a significant part in the process of learning just how much God truly does love you. As I have already said, my energy level has improved greatly, as has my entire outlook; however, I must stress that I cannot attribute all of these changes to just a different diet. I give all credit to the Holy Spirit and God.

Salad, chicken, Ezekiel Bread, olive oil, fish, omega-3 eggs, brown rice, oatmeal, fruits and veggies, and smoothies, are the key ingredients; much like a typical Mediterranean diet, with plenty of H2O. My smoothies are basic: frozen fruit, honey, rice milk, olive oil, banana, and whey protein powder. Just remember that everyone is different–thank God not everyone is plagued with MS–and what may work for me may not work for you. Check with the Blessed Holy Spirit before doing anything!

Johnny’s Journey IV

Last time I failed to mention why I had been sent back to second base.
On my way to third I got wrapped up in my self pity over the pain in my back, and had to go back and reflect awhile. The Lord is always reminding me – ” There are those worse off then you, you live with physical pain for a short time, some live with it a lifetime!”
I know this is true, but when you are hurting or very tired or lonely it has a way of draining the life out of you and you do not reason well. I know we are to draw upon the power of the Holy Spirit but I want a quick fix now. When it does not happen in my time frame I’m upset just like a small child. Although, like a small child we are to go to our Father when we are hurting physically, emotionally and spiritually. I know this also, however, in the past when I was hurting I would try to take comfort in any form that would dull the pain immediately.

Wine, women and song; if the wine did not do the trick then vodka, if not that, then drugs. If one women was not enough, how about two? And what is your song?
That tune that plays inside your head that drowns out the words of reason and wisdom.
Food, fame, fortune, there are so many things in the world today that compete with the voice of God. We all have something that we turn to when we hurt.
Trouble is, there is nothing this side of heaven that can help. We must seek our Father for His love, comfort, and His healing. Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would come to comfort.
After so many years of hurt and failure I have finally surrendered to the Holy Spirit and with time and God’s grace I someday will never venture away from His side.

But at times I still , like Esau , am impatient and immature in my reasoning, also impulsive and not in-tune to the things of God as Jesus was, but I am in-tune to the world. I think, say and do things I later regret. Esau lost his birthright, but not us, we can have the birthright of a child of God through the atonement of Jesus the Messiah.
So if you are like me, hurt, confused, frustrated with life at times, then let us go to the Father by way of the blood of Jesus the Messiah and stay in His presence for awhile ( maybe a long while ) ’till the hurt goes away.
And if you are in need of fellowship please write ( just click on comments ) because I truly believe that as we share and bond together in this journey, the Lord will work for the benefit of  all who truly seek Him.

‘Till next time God Bless  : John.

J.J.III

Funny thing about life–spiritual or secular–when you think you have a good grip on the bat; the bat breaks. Mine ended up sailing over the pitcher’s head. That is exactly why the Lord ask to pinch hit for us to help us avoid that type of set-back. Speaking of set-backs; the last time I wrote I was walking to third base and because I had learned to take my time, be patient and rest in God, I was beginning to feel just a bit haughty. Which seems to happen to me quite often, and with the understanding that I have with the Lord He lets me know immediately.

I just recently retired after thirty years with a municipal fire department and some years back I was badly injured on a house fire when the front porch roof collapsed on top of me immediately rendering me several inches shorter. Since then my back has had a flair-up or two, and it just so happened that while I was proudly strolling toward third another flair-up introduced itself to me. Unless you have had a bad backache you may not completely appreciate my predicament. Let me just say that a backache is a great attention getter.

Of course, at first I tried surgery, medication, therapy, and holistic treatment to no avail. Then I went to the church elders for prayer, and still nothing. So this time I had decided to handle it myself and take it straight to the Man Up Stairs! He and I had it out; or at least I screamed at God until I tired. Again, to no avail, but when I had finally shut-up I was able to hear the Lord’s voice, “My grace is sufficient.”

I truly believe that the Holy Spirit revealed to me that it was during my time living outside of the Kingdom of God that I became a target for the devil and I got pummeled. I now have the scars that ache at times when I begin to drift outside the Kingdom. Oh yes, God can and will heal every single ache as I walk with Him in His Kingdom, His road, and His time.

One thing about second base is it gives you a great view of the field, the game, and the stands. From my view point I can see another player who is out in left field, lying on his back, watching the clouds. Yes, there are more than just butterflies to distract you. The scary part is how enjoyable it is to do your own thing out in left field. But deep down inside we know we cannot do our own thing in the game. There are rules for all players and no one can pick which rule to follow and which to disobey.

If however, you choose not to play the game you can become a spectator or leave the park entirely. Although, if you do not play you will not be able to participate in the after game celebrations or the championship awards banquet. I don’t know about you, I do not want to be left out in the dark while there is celebrations happening. So until next time, I will be waiting for my signal from third, as I am sure, the base Coach has been waiting for my attention.

Eli, Eli, Lama Sabachthani!

Matthew 27:46

“My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?”

For decades I had thought that God was never to leave us or forsake us and yet here it is, where He does just that to the most important of us. It was not until just a few years ago that I realized what the Messiah was actually saying in this scripture. For thirty-three years our Messiah walked with God, and the one and only time in the Messiah’s life He felt the absence of God’s presence in His life was while He hung on the cross with all of our sins attached. God does not interject with sin, and when our Messiah took on all our sins to pay our cost God was not in the Lord’s heart for that period of time.

In all that the Messiah had experienced and lived through this was the most difficult time in His life on earth. Just think about that for one moment; He was beaten to a pulp, ridiculed and spit upon, His own brothers and sisters mocked Him, a trusted friend betrayed Him and one denied Him three times, He spent forty days and nights alone in the desert without provisions, He saw a friend die and a contemporary get beheaded, and through it all only when He felt the presence of God leave His heart did our Messiah despair!

God will never leave us, but we leave Him every time we sin. That may not seem like a great revelation unless you begin to realize that sin is not limited to murder and rape, but it also includes lying, selfishness, greed, and hate. Once you place sin into the perspective it belongs we can quickly see how important our surrendering ourselves completely to our God becomes in this life.

Fruit

John 15:2 – “Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it, that it may bear more fruit.” NASB

Even when the description is as simple and clear as this we must ask, what is fruit. That is why we need the assistance of the Blessed Holy Spirit to help us truly apply what is written in the Word of God into or lives.

Galatians 5:22-23 – “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control; against such things there is no law.” NASB

These are most certainly not the only fruits one can produce, everyone is different; however, these are indeed very important fruits to produce in our lives. These nine traits do most certainly set apart those who display such characteristics from those who do not. As each of us attempts to apply these attributes into our daily activities by allowing the Messiah complete autonomy, we will be contributing to world improvement.

Johnny’s Journey Continues

Chapter 2

In the last chapter I mentioned that I was on my way to third base, but what I didn’t mention was how I have chosen to walk to third this time believing that even though I didn’t completely let go of the bat when the Lord and I took a swing, the ball is going over the center field wall! I have found that walking takes a little more patients, but I fall much less and its far less painful if I do fall. Of course, we all don’t have to walk if you can run, praise God! We are all different. I know some brothers and sisters that are still in the dugout!

Just remember that we have a wonderful Coach in the Holy Spirit to guide, instruct, and support all who listen for the signals. We also have a wonderful play book in the Bible and if we read the Holy Bible to learn the holy signals provided to us by the Holy Spirit, the next thing you know you are spend holy time developing your holy life. Because that is the main reason so many of us fail to get to third because we fail to spending time away from this world and its toys. We are told in John 17 that we are not of this world, and we should not be, but we are, lock, stock and barrel–hook, line and sinker–thought, word and deed.

Remember the views written in these posts are those of the author and I would like to believe they are inspired by the Holy Spirit. However, they reflect my life and as I have said we are all different and God works with each of us in various ways. Oswald Chambers, who I love to study from put it so well when he wrote; “Never make a principle out of your experience; let God be as original with other people as He is with you.”

My brother and I started this blog in an effort to interact with others who are on the same journey as we are with the Messiah in hopes to learn and share with those who find the current conversation on main street Christianity lacking and yet, certain of its course. So I will walk on toward third and next time share with you my adventures that kept me at second for so long.

Just A Remnant

When it is all said and done there will always just be a remnant of the population that represents the Messiah, and it will always be enough. The Bible has story after story of rising above the challenge, overcoming the obstacles, and never letting fatigue take you over. What the Bible is lacking is all the great times we are to have here on earth while we frolic in the sun with all of our wonderful possessions just like the main church messages today. Most sermons are geared around the few scriptures that talk of riches and wonder that one can have with a life in the Messiah. However, the riches and wonder are the Messiah, and not the things of this world. Most certainly our Heavenly Father will provide all our needs; unfortunately, we no longer can differentiate our needs from our wants.

Believers today are beginning to understand what life in the Messiah really means and to think of others more than yourself actually benefits you from not obsessing on your little aches and pains, your troubles or your desires. To allow the mind of God to completely take over your very soul is true freedom, and it is that freedom that allows you to step up into discipleship of the Messiah and make a difference.

Those who are of the remnant realize that numbers, as with time, mean nothing to God. It has always been a quality thing for Creation and never about quantity. Therefore, no matter how many believers make up the Acolytes there will always be enough to implement the necessary prayer to change the world. So please do not wait a second longer if the Blessed Holy Spirit has been asking you to begin interceding for this world, kneel and go to work.

In the book, “The Kneeling Christian” it is written–“We are never so high as when we are on our knees.” I believe that it may be time to fly!
