Welcome to the Journey

Where is Israel, or maybe the question should be; what is Israel? We could take it one step further and ask who Israel is. Because God never called a piece of real estate Israel. God did call His people Israel, but that did not mean that where they were living was referred to by God as Israel . Today we have gotten our materialism confused with our spiritualism. Just because property is extremely important to us we assume that it must be just as important to God. Let us ask Him: Luke 12:15

Genesis 32:28

“…Your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel; for you have striven with God and with men and have prevailed.”  NASB

As you can see, the first to be called Israel was of course Jacob after he wrestled with God, and what is interesting is the word they use to describe that event–striven. The word, striven in Hebrew is “sarah” which means to contend with, or to persevere. That is as if God was telling Jacob, “you are my kind of human being because you maintain your belief, you are not easily moved to the right or the left.” That says a great deal to those who wish to follow God.

Deuteronomy 26:18-19

“And the Lord has today declared you to be His people, a treasured possession, as He promised you, and that you should keep all His commandments; and that He shall set you high above all nations which He has made, for praise, fame, and honor; and that you shall be a consecrated people to the Lord your God, as He has spoken.”  NASB

What should be very obvious in these passages, but is not, is the caveat that states how God’s people will be “set apart”, “Holy”,  “Exclusive” to the Lord.

Exodus 19:5

“Now then, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep My commandments, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine…”  NASB

Over and over again, that same caveat of following God’s ways to be His people, and never does He call anything but those who follow Him Israel! Even in 2Samuel 7:23 God specifically states that it is His people who are Israel. Who are His people?

Deuteronomy 7:9

“Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments…”  NASB

The Word of God is very clear on who are God’s people, and who God calls Israel. Just as clear is the Messiah’s view on the possession on property (Matthew 19:21).

God’s people follow His lead. What is God’s direction? Matthew 22:36-40 gives the complete and clear answer.

There are many different types of belief in Christianity today, but a quick look into the Bible defines clearly what followers of Y’shua Messiah believe: Hebrews 12:14, 13:16; James 2:12-13, 24, 3:17-18.
